     Welcome to Cher Car Kennels!

As one of the best known experts in the industry, owner Cheryl Carlson works to provide the most comprehensive Training programs available.

Cher Car Kennels’ breeding program specializes in German Shepherds and Belgian Malinois, and strives to produce the working dog you remember from childhood.  Cher Car dogs are in police departments and family homes throughout the United States, Canada, the Virgin Islands and Mexico.

Cheryl Carlson
has been training dogs professionally since 1977, providing guard dog service, teaching family companion dogs (manners, problem solving and behavior modification), personal protection, training K9 police service and physical assistance dogs, and is truly unique among trainers for her vast knowledge, years of experience and unmatched expertise in every area of dog training.
 
She has rehabilitated and placed countless rescue dogs and conducted hundreds of DOG SAFETY AWARENESS seminars throughout the country. Cheryl is a paid consultant teaching dog bite prevention techniques to various organizations including the United States Postal Service, GTE, FIA, Consumers Energy, UPS, the Visiting Nurses Association and many more.
 
Cheryl’s knowledge is frequently utilized throughout the Midwest by Federal and District courts, where she is called upon to provide expert witness testimony in regards to training of police dogs, dog attacks, and dog behavior.  She is also a certified E.M.S. instructor in the field of Environmental Emergencies.

Cheryl has trained and certified 51 police K-9's to date, with teams trained in patrol, narcotics and explosive detection.  She has also certified many other dog trainers in police work.

Cheryl enjoys competition with her own dogs, and has titled in conformation, agility, obedience, Schutzhund, French Ring, Campagne, herding, racing and UKC Dog Sport.  She has judged countless personal protection trials throughout the US and Canada, is a certified Campagne decoy (a French sport consisting of bitework, agility, obedience and tracking), and a former past President of NARA (North American Ring Association).
 
Cheryl is also a UKC licensed Trial Judge for all classes of Dog Sports, and certified by Service Dogs of America to select and certify helpers/decoys for the UKC Dog Sport program.

NEWS, NOTICES & EVENTS:


Obedience CLASSES:

New Dog Obedience classes start Friday, April 25th, @ 6:30 P.M.  Protection will follow @ 7:30 P.M.


We hope to be training outdoors on our fenced training field, but if not, we have a nice indoor training arena and can train in ANY weather!


Advanced Obedience CLASSES:

Our NEW Advanced obedience class (working OFF-LEASH and incorporating agility equipment) will begin on Wednesday, May 21st @ 6:30 P.M.  The class will help you perfect off-leash obedience AND introduce agility skills.  Call or e-mail for details.

 

We will continue to offer “open field” agility practice for the experienced agility handler on Monday evenings at 6:30pm on a pay-as-you go basis. 


Tracking CLASSES:

Tracking classes will resume on Tuesday evenings in the Spring of 2008.

 Dog Sport TRIALS:

Capital City Dog Sport Association will be hosting a UKC Dog Sport Trial at Cher Car Kennels in St. Johns, Michigan on May 3, 2008.

Personal Protection TRIALS:

Capital City Dog Sport Association will be hosting the 10th Annual DOG SPORTS OPEN, a unique biting sports dog show featuring agility, obedience and personal protection in St. Johns, Michigan on August 16-17, 2008.

Terrier RACES:

Announcements:

Congratulations to Cher Car's Dutch Shepherd littermates Épée (owned by Carole Field/Debra Russell & handled by Carole) and Juul (owner/handled by Dana Conley) for EACH obtaining their UKC Champion titles at the Michigan Classic Dog Show on March 9, 2008 in Kalamazoo.

 

This breeding (Rush x Touché) has been repeated and puppies were born March 22nd, 2008.  See our Dutch Shepherd Puppies page for more information.

 

 

 
Dog Safety Awareness and Bite Prevention Training

Cheryl has been conducting "Dog Bite Prevention" seminars since 1987, and is a paid consultant in this matter to numerous major employers such as the United States Postal Service (USPS), General Telephone and Electronics (GTE), Arizona Public Service (APS), Consumers Energy, DTE Energy, Cinergy, Family Independence Agency (FIA), Unibar Damage Prevention Group, United Parcel Service of America (UPS), Visiting Nurse Association of America (VNAA), and many more.
